My name is Lisa Hergert. I'm 38 years old and I live in Washington state. I have been writing most of my life. There are always stories running through my head, distracting me from what I should be doing. I went to college at Western Washington University and got a BA in English with a Writing Concentration.
I never managed to do much with the degree. In my spare time I read, hang out with friends, work on crafts, watch movies and TV, write, and spend a lot of time playing video games. One of my favorite games was always City of Heroes. I've always been a fan of superheroes and long before the game came out I created a superhero alter ego. I had a dream about her and because of her I know I want to make video games.
She would end up in my stories. Then I heard this game called City of Heroes was going to come out and I was so excited. I created her in the game and got to be this character. I also met some really amazing people, people that I'm still friends with on Facebook.
Writer who wants to make video games
The game added a new feature they called Architect Entertainment. Is was a building you went into and then interacted with a special interface where you could create your own mini story arcs, with custom characters. These stories could then be uploaded to the live server for everyone else to play. I had so much fun with it, that I started to wonder if I could do it for a living.
After a little research, I discovered you could write video games for a living. I started looking into schools where I could learn how to do this. Turns out Bellevue College (used to be a community college) had a program for it. I enrolled and in March of 2013 I got an AA in Digital Game Design.
Now I'm looking for a job in the gaming industry. In the meantime I am going to work on some projects of my own and work with a friend on a project of his (top secret). I am also going to start a Facebook group for video game writers.
This site is to have a place to put my work up, so that I can share it and get input.
